more hellos from old GXR

Again unstructured mix bag of shots. If only knew what the interest in beside pictures from some exotic places. Looks I too should move my ..... Ricoh away from the usual. Anyway, hope everybody has nice summertime. Stanislaw p.s. the first two are of course GR, rest is GXR with 35/2.8 lens with the exeption of mask selfie taken with VC Heliar 15/4.5 first model.

Bonjour,

Bonjour focal8.
Sorry, but my french is too rusty so not too make fool of myself I`ll answer in english. The noise and colour at high ISO is not the best. Originally I`ve bought Ricoh GXR to use it with m-module for my old Leica, Canon and Russian LTM and M lenses. Primarely I used to shoot black and white and Ricoh was known to produce very good b/w even with JPGS. I liked both AF modules 28mm and 50mm. Later came GR so my 28 module got the rest. Then my 50 macro broke down, a real pity. It was optically super. So instead I use 35mm old Leica lens which gives me 50mm. I use an optical finder with it (you can see the camera at slow site pity post). Here come explanation why I use higher ISO in daylight, usually 800-1600. For street shooting without AF lens I zone focus and to get enough DOF I stop the lens to f:8-f:11. High ISO gives me fast shutter which is necessary for quick shooting, something around 1/1000sec, sometime faster sometimes slower.
When the light is good the noise is quite low at high ISO. Why low ISO in last photo? Well, first I could hold it still, the second thing was to keep sky not overexposed, of course buildings went dark so I had to lift shadows up in PS. Of course I could expose for buildings and overexpose sky which is bit risky to darken the sky without artefacts. Finally, yes it`s great pity Rich dropped GXR line and generally is wasting great renome created with their film GR cameras and then GRD. A tout alors Stanislaw

Hello Stanislas,
I understand much better now the why of the thing! It is true that the need for depth of field requires f8 or f11 and of course with an iso has 100 or 200 speed would have been lacking with all the consequences.
This explanation that will allow me to progress in your direction.
