GRDIII vs. GRDII - side by side photos

All photos were taken with the same settings except the WB (and shutter speed of course), where in case of GRDIII was used Multi-pattern Auto WB while GRDII was set to Auto WB.

GRDIII is reportedly more sensitive to light and so there is tendency for overexposure. It often requires to go with exposure compensation down to force the camera to use faster shutter speed. Otherwise, you might be surprised by many overexposed photos. I think it's just the price we pay for more sensitive sensor?

In case of this photo, I forgot to reset detailed WB settings. Hence the color shift. Of course, DNG is unaffected by WB settings.

Hi Pavel, thanks for sharing the test. Although I´m not planning to buy the GRD 3 (I´m still waiting for a bigger sensor Camera from Ricoh), I noticed that the GRD 2 pictures looks a little greenish after developed in ypur test. Did you used Silkypix with the GRD 2 taste that Mr. Nevill put on the web? It happened the same to me. If I apply this taste as a default, the picture looks more green than usual, so I´m using the Auto Silkypix evaluation.

Sorry, I forgot to say that the pictures are completely unprocessed! What you see here are out of camera JPEGs (just resized). I think the color difference is caused by Auto WB. I never liked the GRDII Auto WB. I personally prefer Cloudy WB with GRDII, which looks much warmer. GRDIII Multi-pattern Auto WB is much more precise.

I also used Auto WB in my GRD 2 but my pictures (jpgs) looks redish o with a little "magenta" tint. Only when I open the RAW in Silkypix it´s when they look more accurate. Is that normal? I remember someone saying that GRD 2 pictures goes "to magenta" o cooler tint most of the time.

Just wanted to say great work Pavel! I almost take it for granted now that you'll make superb tesing and comparisions so it's important to remember, and be glad, that you take the (spare/free/extra) time to give as all this usefull information. Thanks! Keep it up! :D
